Dear Parents, Caregivers, Friends and Family,

Today Ms. Emma and I attended the FOBISIA (Federation of British International Schools in Asia) business meeting. It was great to link up with colleagues from across Asia and plan how the federation will continue to develop for the good of our students and staff. There are plans in place for more events for our students, more CPD for our staff and also for more collaboration on important school issues such as safe recruitment and student safeguarding.

Year 3 – Go Back In Time
Last Friday the Year 3 children stepped back in time to learn what it was like to be in a Victorian-era classroom. They experienced the same routines, the same lessons and learned about punishments from over 120 years ago! Would you like to go to a Victorian school?

Early Years – Safe and Secure
Road Safety and the role of the Police were our themes this week in EY. Students shared songs about crossing the road safely and our security guard Khun Joy came and told the students about how she takes care of us at school. We appreciate all that she does for us at First School in Garden!

Saturday 27th March
This day was originally set aside for the School Fair, but due to Covid-19 restrictions, we cannot run the School Fair. This day is now a normal school and a full day of lessons will take place. School buses will also run as normal. All students are expected to attend school on this day.

DT – Supporting Early Years
One of our wonderful Year 10 students, with strong DT (Design Technology) skills has helped out the Early Years classes by making them a new storage box. Our Early Years teachers were delighted with the new addition to their resources.

Year 6 – Ratio
Year 6 learnt about ratio this week and how different amounts can be represented. We loved using sweets to display the ratio and different ways we can explain what we made.

Thai – Making Learning Real
This week our Thai lessons have revolved around the idea of putting into practice what the students have been learning. Year 2 have been learning about traditional Thai games and Year 5 have been learning about marketing campaigns.

Year 10 Biology
Respiration is the process by which organisms convert energy from a chemical form into an available form (ATP). Our Year 10 students have been learning how this process takes place at a cellular level. In this experiment, they were investigating the effect of varying temperature on the respiratory rate of yeast.

UN FAO Secondary Tree Photography Competition
Over the past two weeks, our secondary students have been taking part in a competition organised by the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations. They had to send a photograph of their “emotional support tree” with a caption explaining the reason why they chose the tree. We also ran an internal house competition, and these are the winning photos. Congratulations to Matt and Eagle House for the winning entry.

Garden International School and ATMEC are working together on a reef monitoring and coral recovery program in the gulf of Thailand. Over the next few weeks we will be raising funds to help support their project.
